Dron Sembur Sawah

Paddy spraying drones for the northern and eastern granaries

From MADA’s plains in Kedah and Perlis to KADA’s fields in Kelantan and the paddies of Seberang Perai. Chemicals, fertiliser and seed go on from the air, so nobody has to wade through the mud.

Full process

Why rice farmers are switching to drones

Knapsack spraying in muddy paddies is exhausting, and finding workers is hard when everyone sprays in the same week. A drone finishes plot after plot from the bund.

A study in MADA paddies at Kampung Alor Gandak, Alor Setar, found spraying time fell from about 80 hours to 24 hours after switching to a drone, and the crew from four people to one (Rosedi & Shamsi, 2022).

Farmers’ questions

How much does paddy drone spraying cost?

It depends on area, job and location. We send a written quote once we have the details.

Does a spray drone need a permit?

Yes. Agricultural UAS operations need a CAAM Aerial Work Certificate under CAD 6011 Part (II). See the regulations page.

Can you use subsidised fertiliser?

Yes, if it is in a form that suits the spreader. We follow the recommended rate.

Can drones broadcast seed?

Yes, for direct seeding. We calibrate on a test plot first.
